The Personal Story Behind Quirkz

Let’s start with a little story.  Picture this: a shy, introverted girl who found her voice and confidence through the magic of cosplay.  Yep, that’s my daughter.  Watching her transform into one of the youngest Masters in the cosplay world and blossom into an aspiring fashion designer and artist was like witnessing a real-life fairy tale.

For years, I’ve been deeply involved in the cosplay community, sponsoring competitions and supporting individual cosplayers.  What fuels me isn’t just my daughter’s passion but seeing the incredible creativity and innovation of these talented individuals.  They design breathtaking costumes but often lack the support, tools, or opportunities to fully realize their dreams.

The Birth of an Idea

Seeing the struggles that cosplayers and competition organizers face firsthand, I knew something had to change.  After a chat with one of Africa's top cosplay organizers, the idea for Quirkz was born.  I envisioned an app that would streamline everything from showcasing your characters to building your profile, from competition setup to judging, from tutorials to cosplayers selling their skills, making life easier for everyone involved in the cosplay community.

Building the Dream Team

But, an idea is just that – an idea. To bring Quirkz to life, I teamed up with the brilliant minds of Robbie Ribeiro and Alan Firth.  Robbie, our Chief Tech Sentinel, and Alan, our Chief Tech Alchemist, are the wizards behind the curtain, and with a team of passionate creatives, tech gurus, coding alchemists, and cosplay aficionados are transforming my vision into a functional, user-friendly platform.

The Journey So Far

We dreamed up this app in early 2023, and by late 2023, we were ready to turn that dream into reality. Our goal is to create an app that benefits everyone in the cosplay community—cosplayers, fans, judges, organizers, designers, and beyond. And let me tell you, it’s been one heck of a ride, and not an easy one at that, and we still have a way to go!
